HeiQ Smart Temp is…
…is an innovative thermoregulation technology that provides fabrics with the ability to dynamically respond to body heat. The cooling function is activated when you are hot and sweaty and deactivated once cooling is complete. It helps to ensure optimal comfort and performance.
HeiQ Smart Temp is ideally designed for clothing that are within reach of body heat and skin’s moisture. Especially suitable for next-to-skin apparel, sportswear, activewear, intimates and hosiery, but also for the linings of winter garments and home textiles such as sheets, bedding accessories and mattress ticking.

HeiQ Smart Temp effect made visible
Add a drop of water to treated and untreated fabric samples on cold (20°C) and hot (35°C) plates, and see what happens through the lens of a FLIR camera. The cooling effect on the treated sample on the hot plate is unmistakable!

Vaporization action for continuous cooling
Innovative hydro-functional polymers developed by HeiQ provide a unique responsive material that changes its properties in response to temperature, dynamically evaporating moisture to complement the skin’s natural ability to regulate body temperature for a continuous cooling effect.
As long as the body is hot, it supplies heat and sweat which is used by the fabric to achieve prolonged cooling. When body heat lowers, the level of sweat is reduced and the cooling effect of the fabric adapts.
Thermoregulation test methods
HeiQ offers the following thermoregulation test methods for your textiles:
- Dynamic Evaporation Test*
- FLIR (Forward-Looking Infrared) thermal test**
- Sweating manikin test**
- Sweating torso test**
*Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC) test method (at cost if used for QC purpose)
** Test methods offered at cost
Dynamic Evaporation Test
The outstanding performance of fabrics enhanced with HeiQ Smart Temp becomes very clear during the Dynamic Evaporation Test. At 35°C, a treated fabric evaporates at a Δ25% increased dynamic range, resulting in a cooling sensation.

Frequently Asked Questions
HeiQ Smart Temp is a textile treatment that changes passive textiles to textiles with a dynamic response to temperature changes. HeiQ Smart Temp uses the heat of your body to activate cooling – HeiQ Smart Temp keeps you cool and comfortable when it is most needed.
With a HeiQ Smart Temp treated garment, the heat of your skin creates some magic: HeiQ’s dynamic cooling technology HeiQ Smart Temp complements the body’s natural thermoregulation process – just like a second skin – to achieve an enhanced dynamic cooling effect.
Yes, HeiQ Smart Temp is a perfect technology for any environment that benefits from active temperature and moisture regulation – underwear, mattresses, bedclothes, … any kind of next-to-skin textile products. Top notch brands like Bekaert Textiles, Hanes Brands, Goldenlady and Calida have discovered the power of dynamic cooling and comfort.
Cooling through evaporation is a natural process. The most common example is skin temperature reduction thanks to the evaporation of body perspiration. Evaporation is the one mechanism our body has to keep its 37°C core temperature. The principle underlying evaporative cooling is the fact that water must absorb heat for it to change from a liquid to a vapor; when evaporation occurs, this heat is taken away from the wet surface.
Yes, HeiQ Smart Temp is machine washable at 40 °C.
No. Compare two untreated samples at 20°C and 35°C and you will notice that despite the 15°C temperature difference they evaporate and dry in a similar way. This is because textiles are passive and do not alter the evaporation rate with increasing temperature. On the contrary, if you compare the HeiQ Smart Temp treated samples you will see the sample at higher temperature dries very rapidly while at colder temperature it does so much slower. That’s thanks to the dynamic nature of HeiQ Smart Temp, evaporating and cooling much more at higher skin temperature.
