Corran Farming – Sustainable water treatment for crocodile pens

Probilife Pty Ltd, based in South Africa, partners with Pruex Africa to deliver HeiQ probiotic solutions for hygiene and water treatment. Corran Farming, an innovative crocodile farm near the south shore of Lake Malawi, replaced harsh chemical cleaning agents with a natural microbial water treatment approach. This change removed chemicals from the farm’s processes and created a way to reuse water responsibly.

As part of a UN development initiative, nutrient-rich water from the crocodile pens now irrigates 19 hectares of land and supplies three aquaculture ponds for smallholder farmers. Before this system, local farmers relied on unpredictable rainfall and fertilizers. Today, they grow crops more reliably, improve household income, and strengthen food security for their families.

Ralph Henderson, Managing Director of Corran Farming, shared: “After the water we use has been through the crocodiles, it is returned to the community, rich in nutrients and completely free of harsh chemicals. In the past, “green water” was a problem and had to be disposed of, but now it is environmentally friendly and can be used for horticulture and aquaculture by the community outside the crocodile ponds.”
This collaboration shows how natural solutions can reduce environmental impact and create shared value for agriculture and local communities.

  • Webinar: Synbiotics for hygiene and animal care

Synbiotics combine probiotics (beneficial bacteria) and prebiotics (nutrients that feed them). When used in farms, they support animal care routines and hygiene practices. This helps animals stay more resilient and maintain stable performance over time.

Synbiotics combine probiotics (beneficial bacteria) and prebiotics (nutrients that feed them). When used in farms, they support animal care routines and hygiene practices. This helps animals stay more resilient and maintain stable performance over time.

Learn how synbiotics fit into daily farm use and how they change conditions in barns and on surfaces.

The widespread use of antibiotics and harsh disinfectants has increased antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in livestock. This webinar looks at practical ways synbiotics can be applied to support animal performance, improve well-being, and reduce ammonia output in real farm settings. Guest speakers share examples from farms in Europe and North America.

  • Webinar: Probiotics. Latest water treatment innovation.

This webinar explains how synbiotics act as sustainable bio-filters in water systems to reduce sludge, odor, and maintenance costs.

Learn how synbiotics (pre- & probiotics) act as highly effective, sustainable bio-filter in industrial and open water systems. Synbiotics are a game changer that helps prevent high maintenance cost caused by sludge and odor build-up.

We are joined by experts in the field of water treatment who answer detailed questions about the technology and its practical application during the Q&A part of the webinar.
