F.A.Q.

• Is silver really used in textiles containing Pure by HeiQ? · Yes.
• Why use silver? · Silver is very efficient in preventing growth of bacteria causing odor. It is also a naturally occurring material which has been used for centuries by humans and is known to be harmless in the concentrations used for Pure.
• Is there any reason for concern wearing garments containing silver? · No. Silver is well-known to be harmless to humans. It is frequently used in medicine to effectively treat wound infections as well in preventative care. Silver jewelry has been worn by many million women and men for centuries without any negative health implications. It is also commonly used in finer tableware. We have also confirmed that products using Pure by HeiQ inside are safe to humans and the environment, by testing our products according to government defined test standards and independent quality labels such as Oeko-tex.
• Can you be allergic to silver? · No. It is quite common to be allergic to nickel impurities mixed with the silver in jewelry. However, Pure products contain no nickel but instead highly pure silver.
• What happens with the silver when the garment is washed? · Most of it stays in the garment. A very small amount gets washed out. This has been repeatedly and independently shown in tests not to cause any harm to the environment since any free silver ions quickly become inactive.
• Will a silver shirt pose any problems in a security checkpoint at e.g. an airport? · No it won't. The concentrations are so low that it will pose no problem. 1 gram of silver is usually enough to make 100 t-shirts odor-free for the lifetime of the garment.
• Can you eat silver? · Eating silver is actually commonly done in the oriental part of the world such as Iran and India, where sweets are plated with thin films of silver. HeiQ does of course discourage from eating any clothes containing silver, however tasty they may appear.
• How common is silver in nature? · Silver is naturally occurring in the nature in concentrations of about 0.2-2ppb (part per billion) and is in e.g. some US states permitted in quantities of up to 80ppb in regular drinking water. Filling up the bath tub with water containing 80ppb silver for a nice hot bath is equivalent to the amount of silver used in a Pure treated garment providing odor-free effect for the lifetime of the product.
